The Challenge
An important factor in building and maintaining a high performance team is to create an atmosphere of self evaluation by having a way to obtain feedback from employees about the organization, its business, policies and management. Performance reviews do provide direct feedback to an individual but are often not done or softened, so they do not drive changes in behavior. It is human nature to not particularly like to receive information about yourself from others, especially if it appears to be critical or threatening. These appraisals typically do not provide much, if any, information about how the organization is doing. Studies show that too few organizations utilize a sufficient range of feedback sources in helping employees understand the organization's goals and their individual's strengths and developmental needs.
